Group Accountant

The world's leading Museum of art and design, are looking for a dynamic and technically sound Group Accountant to join the team. This is an incredible opportunity to join a high achieving team and pursue a career in Financial Reporting.

You would be assisting and supporting the Senior Group Accountant in ensuring that the Museum's financial records are accurate and complete and that appropriate, accurate and timely information is provided to staff that need it.

Main responsibilities:

- Assist in the preparation of the financial statements for the Museum and its subsidiaries

- To provide assistance as required for the interim and final audit for the Museum

- Prepare corporation tax information for the Museum and all associated entities.

- Act as key point of contact for external tax advisors.

- Assist the Senior Group Accountant in forecasting the annual Museums and Galleries tax relief rebate, and assist with preparing the claim as required

- Assist the Senior Group Accountant with the preparation of the Group VAT return on a quarterly basis.

- Act as day-to-day VAT advisor both within finance and externally across the wider Museum.

- Work with the Senior Group Accountant to ensure monthly investment journals are prepared and posted on a timely basis

- Ensure all Museum bank accounts are reconciled monthly; work closely with the Finance Operations manager to ensure all reconciling items are resolved in a timely manner.

- Assist with the preparation of management reports and other ad-hoc reports for the associated charities as required.

- Prepare the annual Office for National Statistics returns.

- Prepare monthly accruals, prepayments and any other journals as necessary.

*Qualified financial accountant (passed finalist, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA).

*Solid financial accounting skills with experience of SORP accounting together with exposure to a group accounting environment.

*Good understanding of corporation tax.

*Hands-on experience of using mid-range accounting software coupled with strong Excel and Word processing skills.

*Ability to present complex financial information, simply, in reports and presentations to both a financial and a non-financial audience.

*Ability to understand financial processes and underlying principles.

*Good communication and presentational skills, both verbal and written.

*Self-starting, methodical and proactive.

*Keen to improve their knowledge and the Museum's performance.

*An interest in the cultural sector.
