Electrician - Larne job description

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: Works with limited supervision to test standard generator sets to determine malfunctions and make repairs as required. Performs special tests on generator sets to prove engineering design theory, load and cooling performance, endurance and vibration tests, etc. Performs non-routine tests on generator sets and special panels when only general information is available. Interprets complex prints and electrical drawings to perform tests. Documents and analyses results of tests and provides appropriate feedback. Sets up and simulates test for special panels with the aid of the component documentation. Updates computer records on machine/progress faults. Compliance with safety and quality standards. Compliance with 5S programme and other business improvement initiatives. Display behaviour and conduct fitting with our Values in Action. Train other employees if and when required. Any other appropriate duties.

Skills and Competencies: Comprehensive knowledge of generator sets and control panels to set up tests with limited data available. Must be able to set up and assimilate tests for components on special panels. The ability to follow and comprehend verbal, specific and detailed procedures and work instructions. The ability to perform difficult arithmetic calculations in order to perform the duties of the position. The ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematic drawings. The ability to use a variety of power tools, hand tools and complex testing equipment. Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces. Physical ability to fulfil the requirements of the job. Attention to detail to meet quality standards - preferred. Strong customer focus - preferred. Ability to prioritise and organise sequence of work - preferred. Reasonable level of computer literacy - preferred.

Qualified Electricians
Education/Experience: Formal apprenticeship or NVQ equivalent in electrical discipline. Previous experience in testing or faultfinding environment.
